The Union Government has taken an urgent action today to repeal Article 370 of the Constitution which gives special status to Kashmir and bifurcate the State into two Union Territories. This is a blatant act of dictatorship. The Liberation Panthers vehemently oppose this war waged on the Constitution. We call upon the democratic forces to oppose the tyrannical rule of the BJP which is making India a state of restlessness.
Troops have been concentrating in Kashmir for the past few days. Former Chief Ministers of Kashmir have been arrested and detained under house arrest. All means of communication have been cut-off from there. Indian government has waged an undeclared war on Kashmir. In this backdrop, the order issued by the President today cancelled the special status conferred on Kashmir. Not only that, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019 presented by Home Minister Amit Shah in Rajya Sabha today has been filed and passed in urgency. The law enacted to bifurcate Kashmir into two union territories is an act against the constitution.
Article 370 of the Constitution is not a concession provided to Kashmir. It is a condition accepted during the accession of Kashmir into India. Cancelling it is by no means acceptable.
This move by the Modi government rather than solving the Kashmir problem, will only escalate the tensions. The Modi government thinks that by destabilizing peace, the regime’s mishaps can be hidden from outside world. And the people of Kashmir have been sacrificed for that. Therefore, we urge all democratic forces to strongly oppose this.
